Soubemos, também esta semana, que o nosso Socratíssimo quer que as seguradoras deixem de pagar consertos que ultrapassem o valor dos automóveis. Eu percebo: os carros em Portugal são todos topos de gama e as seguradoras estão à beira da falência. Tadinhas....
Ainda não percebi os defensores deste governo: apoiam-no porque são socialistas ou porque são liberais? Isto é, gostam do governo porque é um governo de Esquerda, ou porque governa à Direita (se bem que algumas medidas estão mais para o caciquismo do que para qualquer doutrina democrática)? Os professorezinhos
Em 2005 nenhum professor, classe a que pertenço por uma série coincidente de acidentes, recebeu avaliação negativa. Ou dito de outra forma, no ano lectivo passado nenhum docente português, sem nenhuma excepção, obteve uma classificação (ou menção, como capciosamente preferem) de “não satisfaz”.
Ora, só isto, mesmo que se vivesse em Marte e se desconhecesse por completo a realidade educativa, chegaria para deduzir que as coisas estão mal.
Sendo uma evidência os maus resultados dos nossos alunos, tanto entre eles, como quando comparados com os alunos estrangeiros (relatórios PISA) e , presumo, sendo em princípio “ensinados” por professores, como é possível ninguém, nem um, ser responsável por este descalabro? Por sinal, e pelo que o Diário da República publica, verdadeiramente ninguém.
Sabe-se que a “máquina educativa” está pejada de um sem número de profissionais habituados a privilégios que na Europa já não existem. Depois, claro, há uma imensa maioria de docentes ignorantes e impreparados que, não tendo tido jeito para mais nada na vida, acabaram a ensinar o que na verdade não sabem nem nunca vão saber.
Ah, mas concluíram um curso superior! Pois concluiriam, bastando-lhes para isso e sem grande esforço repetir vezes sem conta aos pedagogos “românticos” das universidades e das escolas superiores de educação frases como (e eu as ouvi) «o professor é um facilitador da aprendizagem».
Ora, tendo esta “empresa” tão maus funcionários e tão maus resultados, a nova ministra, tal como um novo gestor que pega pela primeira vez numa empresa, está a tentar arranjar forma de expurgar muitos milhares de inúteis do sistema e melhorar o produto final. O que só por si já não é mau.
Claro que há asneiras, não que o sejam na sua essência, mas porque não são simplesmente aplicáveis num país como Portugal. É o caso do contributo dos pais e encarregados de educação na avaliação final do desempenho dos professores. Como à mínima facilidade o português comum aldraba o jogo, o mais certo é haver notas negociadas, as dos alunos com as dos professores, entenda-se.
Por fim, existem todas aquelas questões típicas de um funcionalismo que premeia a antiguidade e o simples marcar presença. Como o mérito é há décadas estranho à maioria dos docentes, o mais leve indício de avaliação do seu desempenho, de comparação com os demais, de obrigação, de quotas, de produção de conhecimento e de responsabilização pelos resultados dos alunos, causa-lhes pesadelos.
Finalmente, há os sindicatos. Pelo que os vejo dizer, e fazer, pergunto-me se o país onde vivo não é realmente a Albânia.
Como, por outras bandas, sei que há melhor do que isto, e que funciona, apoio a ministra. E fim de conversa.
Os sacos de plástico
O nosso atraso civilizacional vê-se em coisas tão pequenas como um simples saco de plástico de supermercado. Aflige-me, por isso, que em 2006 ainda estejamos a falar de sacos de plástico.
Como os nossos saquinhos terceiro-mundisitas são cada vez mais frágeis, a ideia agora é substitui-los por sacos de plástico mais resistente e, como se não chegasse, ainda nos querem fazer pagar por eles.
Sem muito esforço, basta abrir a televisão (no Hollywood, por exemplo) e em qualquer filme americano dos anos 70 a única coisa que se vê são sacos de papel. Já sei que me vão dizer que os americanos têm os carros mais poluidores do mundo e que comem fast food até à morte. Isso não me interessa. A verdade é que o uso de sacos de papel na América do Norte é vulgar há mais de 30 anos.
Se isto não chega para nos envergonhar, o que é que nos envergonha então?

Não existem verdades absolutas, isto é válido para todas as partes. Como as notícias internacionais, especialmente as veiculadas pela Reuters (que sem confirmação e num acesso de mau profissionalismo, avança com "takes" panfletários e propaganda grosseira), apenas mostram uma versão (altamente manipulada), aqui vai a visão do outro lado.

Criticism of Israeli policies in a reasonable and informed manner is legitimate and something that Israelis themselves do on a regular basis, as is the norm in a healthy democracy. Fatah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists deliberately aim to kill and maim civilians, both in disputed and purportedly non-disputed Israeli-controlled territory, and show little concern for any "collateral" damage such attacks may inflict on their own people. Israel, in absolute contrast, acts concertedly to thwart the terrorists, not to attack the civilians from whose residential areas the terror cells despicably operate. Secondly, in times of war and conflict, accidents happen. Israel is properly investigating Friday's incident; it genuinely wants to understand what happened to ensure that, if the IDF was responsible, lessons are learned and appropriate preventative steps taken. Indeed, as Qassams have rained down on Sderot and other areas of the Negev, striking residential buildings and schools, it is only due to immense luck that Israel has not already suffered multiple deaths and injuries as a result of such attacks. In the latest missile attacks, carried out by Hamas, an Israeli suffered critical injuries as a Qassam struck a school campus. These attacks, despite their potential for mass casualties, are described by the BBC's Simon Wilson as "mainly symbolic".
While the IDF has not taken responsibility for the Palestinian deaths until the conclusion of an inquiry, Israel has offered assistance to the Palestinians, including evacuating the wounded to Israeli hospitals, where a number are now being treated.
As Palestinians have continued to encourage or turn a blind eye to terrorist attacks and murders of Israeli civilians, while celebrating the culture of "martyrdom", Israel genuinely values human life and deeply regrets the deaths of Palestinian civilians.
Israeli PM Ehud Olmert has stressed that "The IDF is the most moral army in the world... It does not and never has made a policy of targeting civilians." Whatever the outcome of the Israeli inquiry into this tragic event, these words will remain true.

The organization, whose reports are widely relied upon by the United Nations and other organizations, announced the following:
"PCHR’s preliminary investigation indicates that the attack which killed seven members of the same family took place at approximately 16:40 on Friday, 9 June 2006. An Israeli naval boat stationed off the coast of Beit Lahya fired seven successive artillery shells at civilians on the beach in the Waha area, north of Beit Lahya. The shells landed on the beach, which had been crowded with civilian men, women and children at the time. Seven civilians from the same family (father, mother and five children) were killed. A sixth child from the same family escaped death but was seen on television crying hysterically beside her father’s body. A further 32 civilians, including 13 children, were injured... Israeli television Channel 2 broadcast footage of the Israeli boat firing the shells at the beach, with one of the navy soldiers scanning the beach with binoculars; thus indicating that the crime had been perpetrated with a premeditated intent to kill."An indication of PCHR's bias is the fact that it consistently refers to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as the IOF - the Israeli Occupation Forces. The organization gathered data that led to the issuing of an arrest warrant in Great Britain against Gen. (ret.) Doron Almog in 2005 for "war crimes." He was to be charged with overseeing the dropping of a one-ton bomb in Gaza that killed Hamas arch-murderer Salah Shehadeh and several children in July 2002.Despite the PCHR claim that the explosion occurred at 16:40, the IDF investigation showed that the explosion did not occur before 16:58. IDF Southern Command O.C. Gen. Yoav Galant said that the IDF artillery in the area stopped firing at 16:51, and that at 16:58, "the IDF's electronic surveillance did not show any unusual activity on the beach."Arab affairs expert Yonatan D. Constelação de estrelas no Funchal Jazz
Entre 7 e 9 de Julho, os Jardins Quinta Magnólia serão palco de momentos únicos de jazz. Com o compositor e pianista brasileiro IVAN LINS em destaque, aqui fica a programação do Funchal Jazz 2006.
Com um peculiar sentido harmónico e um extraordinário talento melódico, Ivan é um dos compositores brasileiros de maior universalidade. O conjunto da sua obra abrange mais de 400 composições, sendo que uma grande parte delas tem sido gravada tanto por intérpretes brasileiros como estrangeiros. “Lembrança”, “A Noite”, “Começar de Novo”, são exemplos de temas que foram registados por músicos de Jazz como Terence Blanchard, Dianne Schuur ou Sarah Vaughan. Tocará na Quinta Magnólia, com o seu grupo, a 7 de Julho.
Para dar continuidade à tradição de celebrar o Blues, a 7ª edição contará também com a presença de LONNIE BROOKS, inventor do voodoo blues e um nome fundamental desta cena musical. Wayne Baker, Andre Howard, Brian James Vollriede e Michael Rodbard, serão os companheiros de jornada de Brooks. O ritmo estonteante da banda vai por certo contagiar o público. Lonnie encerra a segunda noite do festival.

PAQUITO D’ RIVERA foi um dos lideres duma geração que, indiscutivelmente, revolucionou a cena internacional do Jazz, com o seu conceito inovador de fusão de rock, jazz, música clássica e música tradicional cubana e será este complexo mundo musical que irá tomar conta do palco a 6 de Julho, abrindo em grande a edição 2006 deste evento. Além de um extraordinário saxofonista e clarinetista, Paquito D’ Rivera, é também reconhecido pela originalidade e versatilidade do seu trabalho como compositor.
O concerto será antecedido pela actuação da jovem e talentosa cantora madeirense JOANA MACHADO, a mais recente revelação do Jazz nacional. Vem apresentar o seu trabalho “CRUde”, editado em Janeiro de 2006 e a acompanhá-la estarão Afonso Pais, Bernardo Moreira e Bruno Pedroso.
LAIKA FATIEN já provou que não é mais uma cantora de Jazz. Com a sua voz intensa e luminosa, dominando com mestria as técnicas do jazz vocal, acrescenta às suas interpretações uma grande originalidade, para a qual contribui fortemente o gosto de se aventurar por territórios menos convencionais, interpretando de forma igualmente brilhante os tradicionais standards ou temas compostos por músicos contemporâneos como Nicholas Payton ou Wayne Shorter.
McCOY TYNER é uma verdadeira lenda do Jazz, tendo influenciado, com o seu estilo único, várias gerações de pianistas nos últimos 50 anos. Acompanhado por um excepcional conjunto de músicos, (Wallace Roney, Steve Turre, Eric Gravatt, Charnet Moffett, Donald Harrison e Eric Alexander), que não é fácil reunir numa mesma formação, vem apresentar um projecto com características muito especiais: The Story of Impulse! Records. Ao longo da sua carreira, McCoy Tyner já editou 80 álbuns e recebeu 4 Grammys, mas continua a ser um músico inovador, sempre em busca de novos horizontes musicais, marcando de modo indelével a história do Jazz.
E será desta forma muito especial que o FUNCHAL JAZZ FESTIVAL encerrará a 7ª edição.
